Become a Member

Anyone practicing naturopathy in Saskatchewan must be registered with the 
Saskatchewan Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (SANP). As part of the its public mandate, the SANP establishes that all of its members have the requirements for safe, competent and ethical practice of naturopathic medicine in Saskatchewan. 

By registering with the SANP, naturopathic doctors must demonstrate to the public that they have met the requirements and are entitled to use the protected title "Naturopath", "Naturopathic Doctor" and may use the abbreviation "ND". Naturopathic Doctors that are members of the SANP in Saskatchewan will be entitled to use the title "Dr." provided they also use ND following their name. 

In order to practice Naturopathy in Saskatchewan, there are four pathways to register with the SANP:

Track 1: New Applicants who have graduated within the last two years from an accredited school and have completed licensing examinations.;
Track 1: New Applicants who have graduated within the last two years from an accredited school and have completed licensing examinations.;
This track is applicable to Naturopathic Doctors who have graduated within the last two years. To register with the SANP, the ND applicant is required to submit the following:

1) Online Application and Payment: click the blue "Become a Member" button above

) Copies of the following must be received directly from the licensing body to the SANP Office (206 - 3775 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK, S4S 6W8):

2a) NABNE transcripts for NPLEX Parts I and II (Including the Biomedical Science Examination, Core Clinical Science Examination, and Acupuncture Elective Examination, which is required to practice acupuncture in Saskatchewan. If you do not write the Acupuncture Elective Examination, you will be issued a restricted license without the ability to practice acupuncture. Minor surgery and pharmacy electives are NOT required.) OR CONO transcript for Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Sciences Exams

2b) Transcripts confirming graduation from a CNME accredited Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program
                                                                       2c) Confirmation of successful completion of practical examinations from either CONO or CNPBC. The practical examinations that are required for the SANP are:
·      Naturopathic Manipulation Exam (practical)
·      Acupuncture Exam (practical)
·      Physical Diagnostic Skills Exam (practical)

3) Two Character Reference letters: These should specify how long and in what capacity the references have known the applicant. References must be from:
3a) A Naturopathic Doctor

AND

3b) Any ONE of the following:
·      Police officer
·      Medical doctor/Dentist/Optometrist
·      Chiropractor
·      Member of Clergy
·      Mayor or Councillor
·      Member of Parliament or provincial Legislature

4) Liability Insurance – a minimum of $2,000,000 (or $3,000,000 with an IV Certification) liability coverage must be carried. A copy of the policy confirmation must be uploaded within the member login area under "CE Submissions". This will not be available to access until the online membership setup is manually approved, at which point the applicant must login to add this documentation. 

5) VALID CPR certificate – a CPR level C certificate is considered valid for 2 years from the date of issue and must be maintained as valid at all times. A copy of the valid certificate must be uploaded within the member login area under "CE Submissions". This will not be available to access until the online membership setup is manually approved, at which point the applicant must login to add this documentation.

6) Criminal Record Check (Available from the RCMP, local police 
department or through www.MyBackCheck.com) This report must be dated within one year of applying with the SANP. This document must be attached as prompted during the online application process.

7)  The SANP Ethics and Jurisprudence Exam written exam. For an applicant writing in  Saskatchewan please contact the Registrar registrar@sanp.ca to coordinate a day and time to sit the written exam.  The applicant will have one hour to complete their exam and the applicant must receive 80% on their multiple choice, short answer exam in order to pass. The material to review prior to the exam is the following:

Track 2: Transferring Applicants from another Canadian regulated jurisdiction who are currently actively practicing and in good standing;
Track 2: Transferring Applicants from another Canadian regulated jurisdiction who are currently actively practicing and in good standing;
This track is applicable to Naturopathic Doctors who are transferring their membership from a regulated province to the SANP  OR  for a Naturopathic Doctor applying for dual membership practicing in another regulated province as well as the SANP. To register with the SANP, the ND applicant is required to submit the following:

1) Complete the online  SANP Application and Payment: click the blue "Become a Member" button above

) A Certificate in Good Standing from the Canadian licensing body from which the applicant is transferring from. This 
letter must state that the applicant is in good-standing with that licensing body AND that there  are no complaints or investigations currently against the applicant. Find the SANP form for  Members in Good Standing at this link:

3)  Liability insurance – a copy of the confirmation document must be loaded, by the applicant, to the applicant's online SANP application

4) VALID CPR certificate – the applicant must upload a scanned copy of a valid CPR Certificate. Note the SANP requires renewal every two years. An ORIGINAL copy must be provided by the applicant and must be valid the year the applicant is applying with the SANP. 

5) Criminal Record Check (Available from the RCMP, local police department or through MyBackCheck.com) An ORIGINAL copy must be provided by the applicant and must be valid for the year the applicant is applying with the SANP. This document must be loaded to the application.   Note once loaded this document will be accessed only by the SANP Registrar.

The SANP Ethics and Jurisprudence Exam written exam. Bylaws, as well as Part 2 Appendix A and B, SANP Guide to Ethical Conduct and Standards of Practice.

Although you are responsible for understanding and following all of the SANP policies, for the purpose of the exam, the regulatory bylaws are the most important place to focus. You can ignore the information on board positions/Administrative  and pay attention to all of the requirements of membership as well as the appendices on ethics and standards of practice.

Bonus hint: know the years the act and bylaws came into place.

Track 3: Transferring Applicants who are licensed in a US State;
Track 3: Transferring Applicants who are licensed in a US State;

This track is applicable to Naturopathic Doctors who are transferring their membership from a regulated US state. To register with the SANP, the ND applicant is required to submit the following:

Notes: This written exam consists of multiple choice, true/false and short answer questions. A score of 80% is required to pass.
Members are responsible for a thorough understanding of the legislation, bylaws, and policies that govern the practice of naturopathic medicine in Saskatchewan, but for the purposes of this exam, study efforts should focus on the Bylaws: Part 2 - Regulatory Bylaws, as well as Part 2 Appendix A and B, SANP Guide to Ethical Conduct and Standards of Practice.
